Giant hogweed. This plant escaped from Kew Garden, and is one of the non-native plants on the site that are invasive & undesirable because they suppress native plants. 8. When you reach the Yeading Brook, you can cross the ditch with the help of a car tyre. Proceed along the river. The area tends to be swampy. Notice the change in flora, and don't touch the giant hogweed. Cross another ditch. |

9. Cross the brook using the concrete bridge, watching for kingfishers and dragonflies. This area between the Yeading Brook and the Paddington branch of the canal is owned by British Waterways, and is private property. A Rocha trustees are in discussion with British Waterways about all or part of the area becoming a local nature reserve. It has been used for dumping canal dredging and gas works waste. You are not advised to pass the barrier into this area. Move to section 14. That walk will total about 1 hour. Proceed with caution. |
