The blackthorn hedge appears to be covered in snow. Cold weather when it is in bloom is called the "blackthorn winter."
Dock in flower is strikingly beautiful, & plaintains may be a nuisance in the lawn, but show exquisite beauty. The large-leafed plant is horseradish.
The giant hogweed has a spectacular beauty, but is an unwelcome alien plant that suppresses native plants. It grows more than 10 ft (3 m) tall, so is normally seen from below. Enterprising children have made a swing across the Yeading Brook onto the far bank covered with the giant. Don't try it! The giant causes skin irritation. |
